Man Charged with Attacking Pedestrians in Downtown Los Angeles

Prosecutors filed charges today against a transient who allegedly pushed a pedestrian in front of a truck and attacked two other people in separate incidents this week in downtown Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Garrett Joseph Boldt (dob 1/1/77) was charged with one felony count of premeditated attempted murder, three felony counts of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and one misdemeanor count of petty theft, according to the criminal complaint in case BA473456. The charges include an allegation that he personally inflicted great bodily injury.

He is expected to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

According to prosecutors, Boldt is accused of tackling a woman to the ground on the morning of Dec. 4 at West Seventh and Hill streets.

The next morning, on Dec. 5, Bolt was sitting on a bench on West Sixth Street near South Broadway when he stood up and allegedly pushed a passing pedestrian into the street, prosecutors said. The man was hit by a truck and suffered serious injuries.

The victim also dropped a bracelet he had been carrying when he was pushed, which Boldt is accused of taking.

Boldt allegedly punched a woman later that afternoon at a bus stop at West First and South Hill streets. Police arrested him nearby soon after.

The attacks appeared to be random and unprovoked, prosecutors said.

Boldt faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison.

Prosecutors are recommending bail be set at $1.09 million.

Stolen Vehicle Located with Theft Tools Inside.

A deputy in Oildale saw a grey Toyota Camry driving in the area of Roberts Lane and North Chester. He ran the plate and it came back to a stolen vehicle. He pulled the vehicle over in the 7-11 parking lot. The driver and passenger were arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle. When the deputy searched the vehicle, he found bolt cutters, a pry bar and other items that could (and probably would) have been used to commit thefts.

Woman Robs Firefighters as They Put Out a Fire.

While you were sleeping…

Around 3:45 this morning, deputies responded to the fire station located at 2214 Virginia Avenue. Apparently, fire fighters had responded to a fire earlier in the morning and as they left, they noticed a woman standing outside the station – perhaps a little odd at 3 in the morning, but they had more pressing business. When the fire fighters returned to the station, they noticed she was still nearby and, when they went in, they found their personal items had been moved around. They reviewed security camera footage and saw that the woman had taken advantage of their absence and had helped herself to some of their belongings, including a wallet and cash. When deputies arrived on scene, they began circulating the area, looking for the woman who had finally (wisely?) moved on. Happily, they located her after a brief search and positively identified her based on the security footage and the descriptions the fire fighters gave. The woman (51-year-old Angie Maesc) had already disposed of the wallet, but with the positive ID, she was arrested and booked into CRF for commercial burglary.
