Michael Hernandez has been convicted of entering a private home in the middle of the night and perpetrating sexual crimes against a young child in her bed.
On July 25, 2017, in the middle of the night, Michael Hernandez entered the 5-year-old victim’s home through a door that was accidentally left unlocked. He entered the young girl’s bedroom and engaged in sexual conduct with her.
When officers responded, they found some of the family’s clothing in a neighbor’s yard and found that the mother’s bedroom window, which was always closed, had been opened. They recovered a fingerprint from the window, which matched with Hernandez.
When he was questioned, Hernandez stated that he initially tried to gain access through the window, but it was too high for him to crawl through. That’s when he found the unlocked door.
Last week, a jury convicted Hernandez of Attempted Molestation of a Child, Sexual Conduct with a Minor Under Fifteen, and Burglary in the Second Degree. This case was prosecuted by Deputy County Attorneys Noelle Jensen and Vicki Otto.
Sentencing is scheduled for December 10, 2018.
